My buddy and I are floating this August and are trying to keep our gear as light as possible. We are thinking about a kifaru tipi with a stove. Do any of you have thoughts on these tents? It seems like it would be nice to be able to dry out each eve. Thanks for your imput.
User is OfflineUsed one a few years back on a fly in moose hunt. I think it was the 4 man. The stove warmed it up good but little room to move and we burned a few things. Down side to it is there is no floor so you have to plan for where you will be setting it up. Good luck!
User is OfflineUsed an 8 man in the Brooks in 2010 for caribou (3 people) and 12 man on Western Yukon in 2006 for moose (2 people). I can highly recommend Kifaru tipis.

We are thinking about getting the medium stove for the six man tipi. Do you think this stove will be sufficient? What about mosquito netting or the liner? Thanks.
User is OfflineYou should be perfectly toasted....I have used a med stove in an 8 man many times. Great products!

I have an 8 man Kifaru that I've taken on a couple of moose hunts, and to me an 8 man is about perfect for 2 guys and gear without tripping all over stuff. 4 guys could sleep in an 8 man, but they better be gay. I have the large stove and its more than adequate. I take a chainsaw and axe to chop wood so my fires last longer than say using just twigs, though you probably won't bring chainsaw on a float.
Kifaru tips are $pendy, but imo worth the money. Get one now while its still winter and set it up in your back yard so you can test and get a good feel for its performance come Aug/Sept in Alaska. I don't recall the weight of my 8 man and stove, but they really don't weigh dick. Set up is a breeze. Good luck.

User is OfflineI used an 8 man Kifaru with their titanium stove in the Brooks Range in 2009 on a caribou hunt. We got snow and wind and were absolutely comfortable in the tent in our underwear. I'm glad it doesn't have a floor, since we occasionally spilled liquids. The 8 man is wonderful for 2 guys, gear, stove, and firewood. We had a liner, but didn't bring it on the trip. Titanium Goat also makes tipis similar to Kifaru but at a slightly lower price. I have one of the TGoat tents and the quality is excellent. If you need a place to dry out and warm up, you need a stove. If you're going lightweight, you need one of these tipis. I'm sold on them.
User is OfflineHere's one more picture of inside the tent during a snowstorm-very comfy.
User is OfflineI'd get the 8 over the 6, but that's just me.

Thanks for all the great info. Love the pics. There are 3 of us and we were planning on getting the 6 man tipi. We are trying to keep things as light as possible because we are floating in big rigs. After reading what you all have written we will look into the 8 man tipi.
User is OfflineI got the Titanium Goat Vertex 8. For 2 people it's a castle, but I would not go any smaller. I actually ordered the next smaller size, set it up, and was like OMG what did I do because it just wasn't comfortable to stand up in. They gladly let me return it and sent me the vertex 8. I love NOT having a floor, you'll see why when you try it. I also use the Titanium Goat titanium stove (large) and it works well. Lovin the tipi for all the room for gear and HEAT. Did I mention get the 8 man!?
User is OfflineSweet pics! Looks like firewood could be hard to come by? Thanks for all the great info.
